THE 10th RENDITION OF “KAWS:HOLIDAY” ARRIVES AT INDONESIA
”KAWS:HOLIDAY” continues its journey around the world! Embark on a serene excursion as the tenth iteration of ”KAWS:HOLIDAY” graces the enchanting shores of Indonesia, appearing among the Prambanan temples in the historic city of Yogyakarta starting tomorrow, 19 August. Launched in 2018, the ”KAWS:HOLIDAY” worldwide exhibition tour, organized by AllRightsReserved, began in Seoul and has since travelled to Taipei, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bristol, Singapore, Changbai Mountain, Melbourne, and was also launched into the stratosphere.
For this tenth stop on the tour, KAWS rejoins long-time collaborator AllRightsReserved to bring a new monumental sculpture to Prambanan – Indonesia’s largest Hindu temple complex and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Supported by local partner AKG Entertainment, this unique exhibition gives visitors a chance to experience a thought-provoking pairing of ancient architecture with contemporary art.
For the first time in “KAWS:HOLIDAY”’s six year tour, the artist reintroduces “ACCOMPLICE” which first appeared as a vinyl figure released by KAWS in 2002. It is KAWS’s first artwork at a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 9th century, the Prambanan temple complex was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. Dedicated to the Hindu divinities, the temples are adorned with stone relief sculptures that depict spiritual lore, divine heroes, and animals. The site is known for its tall, pointed architecture, with the central temple’s pinnacle reaching 47 meters in height. The 45-meter-long artwork is also the largest sculpture the artist has produced to date.
"KAWS:HOLIDAY” INDONESIA invites fans from all over the world to participate in this journey, immerse themselves in the birthplace of Javanese civilization, Yogyakarta, and explore this harmonious city full of vitality and heritage.
